Channeling some yesteryear glam at The Bar Cat

Quitting a successful corporate job in pursuit of a dream is a tough prospect; but that didn’t deter talented young singer, Raghav Meattle. He first made a mark as a semi-finalist on the second season of reality TV show, “The Stage”. He hasn’t looked back since.

The Bar Cat is designed for great live performances. The stage is set.

25 year old Meattle is a dreamboat, with oodles of charm, generous good looks and a swoon-worthy voice. His special appeal makes him stand out. The celebrity judges on his TV show- Vishal Dadlani, Ehsaan Noorani, Devraj Sanyal and especially Monica Dogra, shared my sentiments.

Meattle in his element

I saw Meattle perform recently at The Bar Cat, South Extension, where he shone, supported ably by a crowd cheering him on with each song. He was on the guitar and his musical coterie included two other musicians, as part of the Raghav Meattle Trio.

The songs he wrote himself really stood out for their originality and instant appeal. The touching “Since memories remain” is a heartfelt tribute to homesickness. On a different vein was the uplifting “Better than it all”, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Other self-written numbers included “Back to the known”, “Bar Talk” and “Boring I love you”. (Links to each song are provided at the end of this post).

Meattle engaging with the crowd

He lent a distinct flavor of his own to the covers he sang, while maintaining the allure of the originals. My favourite was the soulful “You look wonderful tonight” by Eric Clapton. People hadn’t had enough when he was packing up.

Excited groupies!

Meattle is experimenting with many platforms as he begins his musical career. Apart from singing live at various venues across the country; he collaborates with filmmakers and other creative media. The best example is the beautiful “Meher Teri” for The Wedding Filmer.

Packed house for Meattle’s performance

Meattle is definitely a star on the rise. With his fresh, expressive vocals and his charismatic personality; he has everything going for him. However, in a world inundated with talent, luck goes a long way in achieving renown. I look forward to following his journey, as I wish him all the luck!

I only remembered to photograph the cocktails after we were almost done with them! L-R: Rum based Daddy-O and Vodka based Baby Vamp.

The Bar Cat is a jazz/ cocktail club expressly made for live performances. Described as Delhi’s “newest cocktail bar with an old soul”, it tries to invoke the romance and splendor of yore. In just a few months, it’s acquired quite a reputation for its live gigs by offering an extensive line-up.

Happy campers!

The area is small and was really packed that night. The cocktails were innovative, beautifully presented, well-priced and absolutely delicious. My favourite was the vodka-based Baby Vamp. The only issue was the long wait for service. The bartenders couldn’t deal with the large crowd; I waited over 15 minutes for a simple cocktail order at the bar! This can easily be addressed by hiring a couple extra hands for busy weekend nights. I’d recommend the place to lovers of music and a chilled-out vibe.
