Fashion is a common interest of most women. Playing off this, the most recent general meeting of the Women’s International Club took place at Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019 (LMIFW SS’19). Excited ladies from varied age groups and countries attended the event together. Read on to know about my experience.

The Women’s International Club (WIC) provides a unique platform for women living in Delhi to experience various cultures of the world. Its members are a mix of Indian and international women from different professional backgrounds. The club organizes various activities every month related to books, food, travel, culture, and health, among others. Get in touch with me if you’d like to join the club.

With the members of the Women’s International Club

LMIFW SS’19:

Organized by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), the Fashion Week is currently taking place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Over 120 designers from across the country will show their latest designs, over four days. The high-profile event is sponsored by Lotus Makeup and Nexa, and aims at building international ties with countries like Australia and Japan.

The members of the WIC were personally welcomed by the President of FDCI, Sunil Sethi, before being shepherded to the Chivas Lounge to wait. The lounge had seating space along with snacks and free-flowing wine from Jacob’s Creek. It was the ideal place for photos- imperative with so many ladies involved!

Waiting for the shows to begin

THE SHOWS:

We saw two shows, quite distinct from each other. I’ll pen my thoughts on each here.

ANUPAMAA BY ANUPAMA DAYAL:

Dayal’s resort wear collection consisted exclusively of pure crepe-de-chine flowy dresses with vibrant prints. She has a knack for mixing prints without making the ensemble overwhelming. Each of her dresses and kaftans would make picturesque vacation-wear, offset by deep blue seas and sandy beaches. Unfortunately, though crepe is universally flattering on all body types, it isn’t really a summer fabric. Personally I’d be afraid of spoiling the gorgeous clothes on a hot day at the beach!

SAMANT CHAUHAN:

Chauhan’s show began with a short film on colonial Mumbai to the instrumental refrain of Mohd. Rafi’s “Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan”. Setting the mood thus, he presented monochromatic outfits made on gauzy silk fabrics, with Parsi inspired embellishments. The embroidery was incredibly detailed, subtly sparkly yet statement making; and the silhouettes were flowy yet strong at the same time. His clothes were lovely to look at, but one would need the perfect figure to really do them justice!

WHAT I WORE:

In case you’re interested in my outfit of the day, here’s a breakdown.

OUTFIT: The main focus of the outfit was my floral and flouncy skirt, which was bought at an exhibition in Delhi four years ago. The black top and simple black high heels are both from Lokhandwala Market in Mumbai. My bag is from Louis Vuitton, and long slinky gold earrings are from H&M.

I love how the skirt accentuates my waist while hiding everything I want hidden!

MAKEUP: I styled the look with a bold pink lip and eye combo. Most people shy away from doing heavy eyes and lips together, but if done correctly, the look translates well. On the eyes, I used the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette with the Maybelline New York Gigi Hadid Liquid eye liner pen. I sported the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink lipstick in the colour “Romantic” on my lips for a bright pop. You can see the make-up better in my video below.
