5 Tips to Make Your International Trip Child-Friendly

Advertisements

If you have been following me on social media for any length of time, you are aware that I travel with my toddler a lot. Ever since he was 2 months old, my husband and I have been on the go with him, both nationally and internationally. When travelling abroad with him or with our nieces and nephews, like we did earlier this year, we make sure to pack in a lot of child-friendly fun activities. This includes museums, parks, recreation centers, amusement parks, etc. However, tickets to these places can be quite expensive and the experience may not be enjoyable if you go unprepared! Here are five hacks that I recommend for making the most of child-friendly activities while traveling abroad.

  1. LOOK FOR AWESOME DEALS ON WEBSITES LIKE LATESTDEALS.CO.UK:

www.latestdeals.co.uk is an awesome way to score deals on entry tickets and group experiences at throwaway prices. Check out the fun stuff you can do on a budget, by browsing their website here. Want to visit the London Zoo? See a nice castle? Maybe a special dinosaur exhibit at the National Museum? LatestDeals has you covered for all this and more!

  1. BOOK TICKETS ONLINE THROUGH OFFICIAL WEBSITES TO AVOID QUEUES:

Booking tickets beforehand is the easiest way to avoid waiting in long queues. The official websites of any tourist attraction have all the information you need to make your family excursion smooth and fun. Cutting queues by booking tickets for that particular place, is an added bonus!

  1. USE VALID STUDENT ID CARDS OR SENIOR CITIZEN CARDS TO AVAIL DISCOUNTS ON TICKET PRICES:

If your child is a student or you are travelling with senior members of your family, you are eligible for discounted prices of tickets, at most public tourist attractions. Here’s a bonus tip from me- sometimes student ID cards also get you discounts at shopping outlets!

  1. CARRY WATER AND BASIC SNACKS TO STAVE OFF HUNGER AND CRANKINESS:

Water bottles are expensive when travelling abroad, and of course terrible for the environment too. Be prepared beforehand, by filling a small bottle with water and carrying it with you at all times. If you are travelling with very young children, it is also a good idea to keep some light yet filling snacks handy. You could try fruit roll-ups, mini biscuit packets or small packets of pretzels.

  1. AVOID VERY PUBLIC AREAS OR ACTIVITIES ON WEEKENDS:

Visiting major tourist attractions on weekends, in the peak of the tourist season, can be a nightmare. Vast crowds will increase your irritation levels, and have an even worse effect on little children! This problem can be avoided by planning your visit prudently beforehand. You should only go to public and popular touristy spots on weekdays, as far as possible.

I hope you found these tips helpful and you will keep them in mind when you plan your future trips abroad with your family.
