The winter is firmly upon us, and our skincare regimes must change to reflect the changing needs of our skin. While numerous skincare products vie for our attention, it is the age-old and time-tested goodness of Ayurveda that consistently delivers. With this in mind, I decided to try the Kumkumadi Tailam from Maharishi Ayurveda, a traditional Ayurvedic formulation that has been recommended for generations. The formulation of Kumkumadi Oil is described in the classical Ayurvedic text Bhaishajya Ratnavali, and Maharishi Ayurveda follows the traditional preparation steps mentioned in these texts. I’m here to share my honest review of this product after using it for a couple of weeks.
Despite its long-standing history, Ayurveda has become something of a buzzword in recent times. There are numerous products on the market boasting authenticity, purity of ingredients and great results. Most of them, however, don’t deliver on these promises. And the ones that do, can sometimes be exorbitantly priced simply for their brand value, which makes them out of reach of most people. I was interested in this particular product because compared to many modern brightening serums that focus on quick surface-level results, kumkumadi tailam promises a more holistic approach focused on long-term results.

Maharishi Ayurveda Kumkumadi Tailam:
Kumkumadi Oil (or Tailam) is made from a blend of herbs like saffron (kumkuma), sandalwood, turmeric and other herbs. These ingredients are cooked using a traditional method with milk and other botanicals till they form a thick oil. Its primary properties are to brighten skin, reduce pigmentation, even skin tone, minimize fine lines and treat blemishes, resulting in a radiant and youthful glow. Kumkumadi tailam nourishes, moisturizes and repairs the skin as it plays the roles of cleanser, toner and moisturizer. Owing to its natural ingredients, it’s suitable for all skin types, but works best on dry skin, which makes it more popular in the winter months.
What sets Maharishi Ayurveda’s Kumkumadi Tailam apart from other products is its adherence to traditional preparation methods while keeping the formulation suitable for modern skincare routines. Rather than focusing on instant results, the oil is designed to support the skin gradually with consistent use.
Things to note before I share my review of Maharishi Ayurveda Kumkumadi Tailam:
Before I move on to the review of Maharishi Ayurveda Kumkumadi Tailam, I would like to highlight some important pointers about this unique product. The oil claims to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of early ageing. It is also 100 percent natural, free of parabens and other harsh chemicals, and is suitable for all skin types. It also has a non-sticky formula which makes it easy to use. Another important factor is the claim that the oil is lightweight and non-sticky, which makes it perfect for daily use.
How to use the Maharishi Ayurveda Kumkumadi Tailam:
Once your face has been completely cleansed, take 3-4 drops of Kumkumadi Tailam on your palm. Apply over your face with your fingertips and gently massage onto your skin until it is fully absorbed. I use it once a day at nighttime before going to bed. There is no instruction on whether it can be used more than once a day, but once-a-day felt sufficient for my skin.
Review of Maharishi Ayurveda Kumkumadi Tailam:
Now that you have read all the information about this brand and its star product, I’m sure you are keen to read my review of Maharishi Ayurveda Kumkumadi Tailam. In the short time that I have been using it (about two weeks), I have seen good results in terms of improvement in my skin texture, pore minimisation and a subtle glow which is often hard to achieve with the dryness of winter. Quite honestly, I noticed a difference even after a single use. I went to bed with the product nicely lathered over my face and woke up the next day with soft and supple skin, as opposed to a stretched, dry feeling.
For the sake of context, I am a 38-year-old woman with combination skin. Parts of my face are oily, and the other parts are normal to dry, veering more towards dryness in the winter months of Delhi, where I live. This means I’m starting to see the first few fine lines around my forehead and eyes. Delhi’s intense pollution also leads to dull skin. When I was younger, my skin was extremely oily, and I would be too afraid to use any facial oil. However, this product is so lightweight that I feel I would have been able to use it even with my extremely oily skin. So, its claim of ‘made for daily use’ rings true as well.
Now, let’s talk about the packaging. It comes in a compact glass bottle with a dropper. This allows you to take only the amount you need, without wasting any excess product, which makes the packaging simple but effective. The product is also well-priced for being very effective.
From my experience, this kumkumadi face oil fits well into a simple nighttime routine, especially during winter when the skin needs deeper nourishment. With consistent use, it leads to a healthy-looking and natural glow on the skin.
If you have been considering adding kumkumadi tailam to your routine, it may be worth trying it yourself to see how your skin responds over time. As with most Ayurvedic products, regular use and patience make a noticeable difference. You can explore Kumkumadi Oil through trusted online sources and decide if it suits your skin’s needs and lifestyle.
