As a wee girl of 15, when my dad teased me so,
“I will find you a man with a long beard and mo’”,
“You can’t do that to me, dad!”, I protested amidst tears
He laughed, hugged me tight and assuaged my fears
Little did I know, what the universe had in store,
After I’d kissed a few frogs, my prince arrived with his long beard in tow!
‘Twas the day I turned 25, my friend brought him along,
Despite my skepticism, he held my gaze strong
His confident stance and his first friendly greeting,
Cemented my desire for our next meeting
But alas he didn’t call/ message for 4 days!
Slightly upset, I decided to look the other way
On the fifth day when my friend called to set up a date,
I didn’t question why the call came so late
A successful double date with our friends,
Ensured that we made amends
The very next day, he asked me out for dinner,
I couldn’t refuse, I was all a dither
He took me out for a fancy meal,
I was nervous yet excited- was this the real deal?
He told me he doesn’t drink, but protested when I decided not to order one,
He quipped lightly, “just because I don’t drink, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun!”
His attractive personality and the ease of conversation,
Made the evening end on a note of elation
Our second date was a movie, where I had to make one thing clear,
I was only looking for something serious and dear
He could have run, yet he chose to stay,
Our real bond began that day
The number of dates increased slowly,
Until one day, in the parking lot of HKV,
He said, “There’s something I’ve been wanting to do”,
Pulled me close, kissed me, and sparks flew
I’d been kissed before, but never like this,
This was a soul connection hard to miss
Then there was no looking back,
Cupid came calling and that was that
3 months rode swiftly by,
New Year’s Eve crept up on the sly
He asked me to accompany him to the Gurdwara before heading out,
I was surprised but didn’t express my doubt
There, in front of my lord and master,
He bent on one knee, as my heart beat faster,
and asked for my hand.
My knees buckled, I could barely stand
With tears in my eyes,
I yelled “yes!” to the skies
I felt blessed to have him in my life,
I couldn’t believe this sweet, smart man was mine
The proposal paved the way for a whirlwind engagement,
And soon the wedding invitations had been sent
On 27 October 2013, we tied the knot,
Became man and wife at the Gurdwara, the same spot
Now 5 years on, our son has strengthened our love
More blessings have been showered from above
We sometimes fight and disagree,
But know that we are meant to be
Here I must end this poem today,
Do share it, if it touched you in any way
For this is the story, led by fate,
Of how I met my soulmate
This post is part of the Valentine’s Day Blog Train hosted by www.prernawahi.com & www.vartikasdiary.com; sponsored by ShilpSa, Kalpavriksha Farms and Neha from www.bloggingmadeeasier.com. This Blog Train offered the participants a host of interesting prompts to choose from. Some of the posts I’ve read so far, creatively talk about the love of inanimate objects, among other things. I’ve written the story of ‘how I met my soul mate’. #VDayBlogTrain
