5 Tips to Create a Flawless Base

Posted by

Whether you are getting dolled up for a big event or simply slaying your everyday makeup routine, achieving a flawless makeup base is certain to be a high priority. With these simple tips, you can achieve a blemish-free and texture-free glow every single time.

5 tips to create a flawless base

Establish a skincare routine that suits you:

Makeup looks best on a clean and flawless canvas. Hence, you must identify and target your skin’s problems by investing in a good skincare routine. The first step is to buy products aimed at your specific skin type – normal, oily, dry, or a combination of any of these. Next, highlight the areas of concern such as textured skin, dark circles, wrinkles and lines, active acne or scars, and use products that alleviate those issues. Once you have determined a combination of products that works best for you, be sure to establish a daily routine with them. And always remove your makeup before going to bed!

Invest in the right products:

Certain basic rules must be followed when it comes to buying makeup products for a flawless base. Oily skin people should avoid dewy foundations and those with dry skin will do well to stay away from matte formulas. Further, be sure to buy base products that match your skin tone and colour perfectly, to achieve the most flawless look. Once you have created an even canvas with a foundation and concealer, use a finely milled powder to help with the appearance of large pores and texture. This product should also be chosen as per one’s skin type.

Don’t skip the primer and setting spray:

While base products like foundation, concealer and powder are well-known, people often skip two important steps in the building of a flawless base. The first of these is a makeup primer, which needs to be applied after skincare and before makeup. This product can help with minimising the appearance of pores and preparing your face for makeup application by offering a smooth base to work on. Once your base makeup has been applied, you should lock it in with a good setting spray. This product works to prolong the wear of your makeup, and also helps the creams and powders meld into each other for a flawless look.

Work with cream products:

In recent years, the popularity of cream-based makeup products has flown through the roof. Apart from liquid foundations and concealers, blushes, bronzers, contour products and highlighters are also being sold in creamy formulas. The advantage of wearing cream products instead of powder ones is that they melt into the skin seamlessly, where powder products may tend to sit on top of it in an unflattering manner. Cream products are also easier to work with, as they can be applied in layers. Do remember to set all cream products with a finely milled powder and setting spray for the look to last.

Use the right tools for the right products:

All your hard work may come to nought if you don’t apply the makeup properly. Too much foundation could lead to a cakey look, too less will let your blemishes shine through. Too much concealer may give you a grey cast in photographs, and too much powder may emphasise your textured or lined skin. Hence, the right tools are important to blend in the products you use, so the overall effect is natural and beautiful. Certain foundations work best with stippling brushes, while a beauty sponge or blender is your best bet for an even medium-coverage application. Some makeup artists swear by using their hands for the most flawless application base. Don’t be afraid to experiment till you figure out the tool that works best for you.
