Gin is my preferred vacation drink. I enjoy wine on a regular basis, and whisky-based cocktails once in a while, but gin stands apart for the holiday nostalgia it arouses. The refreshing sweetness of gin is hard to replicate. Hence, I was excited to attend the launch of Portuguese gin, Cobalto-17 (or Co-17), at the Embassy of Portugal in Delhi. Read on to know why I recommend this gin:
- THE IDEAL DRINK TO BEAT DELHI’S SWELTERING HEAT:
Delhi is currently engulfed in a terrible heat wave, where even the nightly temperatures remain high. Gin is the ideal cooling drink for sultry summer evenings. Cobalto-17 has entered the Indian market at the right time. It promises to cool you down and liven up your summer evening soirees.
- THE ONLY GIN PRODUCED IN THE DOURO REGION OF PORTUGAL:
The Douro region of Portugal dates back thousands of years and is known for its rich history and beautiful landscapes. Cobalto-17 gin is produced using local ingredients and the traditional knowledge of production passed down through many generations. This makes it a one-of-a-kind drink.
- FRESH AND FRUITY FLAVOUR:
Cobalto-17 is known for its distinctive fresh and fruity flavour. You can savour the taste of juniper, peppermint, verbena leaves, Tinta Amarela grapes, pears and cardamom for a hint of spice. If that doesn’t sound refreshing, I don’t know what does!
- WONDERFUL ADDITIVE FOR COCKTAILS:
Cocktails are especially popular in the summer months, and Cobalto-17’s distinct flavour lends itself well to fruity concoctions. At the launch event, I tried a smooth ‘Cucumber and Rose’ variant as well as a tasty ‘Cranberry and Thyme’ cocktail, and was hard-pressed to pick a favourite. The flavoured tonic waters (mint & spiced grapefruit) by Sepoy & Co. mixed well with the gin.
- FANTASTIC GIFTING OPTION:
The sleek packaging, deliciously smooth flavour and Portuguese legacy make Cobalto-17 a good gifting option. Or, simply a good addition to your own bar. The gin has also recently been awarded a Silver Medal in the London Spirits Competition.
The launch party held at the Embassy was a nice introduction to this drink. It took place on a hot summer evening, where the flavourful gin was a welcome stimulant. The connoisseurs of Delhi’s Food & Beverage industry were kept entertained with a talented live band and snacks from Sprouts Catering. It was a lovely evening and I look forward to sampling more of Cobalto-17 gin in Delhi’s restaurants. I recommend you do the same.
